The aim of Financial Counselling is to empower the individual to appropriately deal with their own financial situation. Financial counselling is a free confidential service.
How can a Financial Counsellor help?
Financial Counsellors can assess the clients’ current financial situation, then discuss options and strategies to best deal with and improve the situation. Financial Counsellors provide information on:
- Budgeting
- Debt management options
- Financial hardship arrangements
- Bankruptcy
- Problem Gambling
- Rights & responsibility relating to credit
Advocacy
In extreme circumstances, where we have capacity our Financial Counsellor can provide support through advocacy on behalf of a client. This may include negotiations with creditors.
Eligibility
To be eligible for Financial Counselling at Palm Beach Neighbourhood Centre your financial stress must be personal not business related, you must live in the catchment area (southern Gold coast) and your income be below $50k p.a. or at risk of being homeless.
Financial Counsellors do not handle:
- Business debt attached to ABN

Financial Counselling is short term assistance only. Up to three sessions are available following an initial consultation. Further assistance can only be provided in extreme circumstances.
